Kewadin Shores Casino-St Ignace
St Ignace, Michigan

Facilities-

Owned and operated by the Souix tribe the St. Ignace Kewadin Shores Casino is one of a five casino chain. Located about 5 miles north of St. Ignace, Michigan, this casino has grown rapidly in the last few years and now boasts over 1300 slot machines and 30 table games. This is a full service 24 hour, 7 day a week casino offering keno, a poker room, blackjack, roulette, mini-baccarat, let it ride, and caribbean stud plus the slots. Popular nickle slots are distributed throughout the casino. Several snack bars and bars are located in the casino.

Attractions-

St. Ignace is located in a four seasons vacation area of Northern Michigan. Just over the mighty Mackinaw Bridge (a looming 5 mile suspension bridge that is an attraction in itself) St. Ignace is home to ferries that run to Mackinaw Island. Golf, hunting, skiing, fishing, biking, hiking and all kinds of outdoor activities attract people to this area for vactions and retirement.

Accomodations-

St. Ignace and Mackinaw City south of the Straits offer many national chain hotels. There is no hotel attached to the casino. The casino offers a shuttle bus service from St. Ignace hotels.

Comps, Deals, Specials-

Kewadin Shores is good at promotion. Join their slot club (called The Edge), you get $5 in coins and several coupons for gambling and merchandise just for going on their mailing list. Plus you get a slots card that's good for cash back on the slots and comps at the tables. The casino features a seniors day on Thursday, more free coins, call for details. The Keewadin group run their own motels in St. Ignace and Mackinaw City. These would be the best choices for package deals. Contact Keewadin for details.

Local Secrets-

Many, many attractions in the immediate area for kids and grown-ups. The run to Mackinaw Island is very popular, great boat ride on the big lake and a carless island. The only drawback is that it gets very crowded on summer weekends. I'll mention two local restaurants that won't disappoint. Little Bob's New Frontier Restaurant is located across the street from the casino. It represents an excellent alternative to the average fare the casino offers. Bob's Place (everybody here is named Bob) in Alanson, about 30 miles south of the bridge is worth a side trip. Big portions, good food, small prices, a real local secret.

Downers-

The casino food is barely average. Washroom facilities are dirty, scant, and sometimes not working very well. Really not up to the standard you would expect from a casino this large and this profitable. Improvement would be welcome in this area.
