TOPIC: Cross Canada- Use of Road Maps

OBJECTIVES:

1) Knowledge:

• acquire a "Road Tour" knowledge of Canada's provinces and Yukon territory while walking from map to map

2) Skills:

• be able to read road maps

3) Attitude:

• appreciate the size and extent of Canada

RESOURCE MATERIALS:

1. A minimum of one road map of each province plus one road map of the Yukon territory
2. Ruler
3. Calculator (optional)
4. Worksheets (6), plus answers

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Display road maps from ten provinces and Yukon territory on the four walls of the room
2. Have the students move in pairs from one map to another, completing the series of questions on each

COMPLETION TIME:

• Approximately two 55 minute periods

EVALUATION:

1. Mark worksheets on the basis of accuracy and completion
2. Teacher monitoring of students working in pairs
