Publishing with FTP Explorer

For beginning web authors FTP Explorer offers a simple interface with all the required features. The major plus about this application, it's free. You can download FTP Explorer at their site at http://www.ftpx.com/.  We have also created a self extracting install of this program click here and open the download.

Setting up FTP Explorer:

When in FTP Explorer you'll be given the Connect screen. If not, clicking on Tools -> Connect ... will bring you there.

To setup the WINCOM settings in there fill in the following:

Profile Name: WINCOM (or any name of choice)
Host Address: ftp.wincom.net
Port: 21
Login: (your dialup username)
Password: (your dialup password)
Initial Path: /public_html/
All check boxes should be blank.

Once filled in click on to the Connect Button in the upper right and if your connected to the net now you'll be at a screen similar to the screen shot. When connected to our FTP server everything that you see within the FTP Explorer is only your WebPages. Webpage content has to be placed in the "public_html" folder and the first page of your website has to be called homepage.html (or .htm) or index.html (or .htm).

Once all uploading is complete (via drag and drop or click File -> Upload) you can view your site by entering your username at the end of WINCOM's main address. http://www.wincom.net/username.
